🔴 SPECIALTY ELECTRICIAN LICENSE REQUIRED: Vermont requires a Specialty Electrician license for low voltage work, with 1-2 years experience requirement depending on the path chosen.
Current Requirements (2024-2025)
Specialty Electrician License
Vermont requires a Specialty Electrician license through the Division of Fire Safety for individuals performing low voltage and specialty electrical work. All work must be performed under the supervision of a licensed Master Electrician.
Key Requirements:
- Experience Options: 1 year (2,000 hours) OR 2 years (4,000 hours)
- Supervision: Must work under Master Electrician
- Examination: Required for licensing
- Statewide Authority: Valid throughout Vermont
Experience Pathways
Two Options Available:
- Option 1: 1 year (2,000 hours) specialized experience
- Option 2: 2 years (4,000 hours) general electrical experience
- Experience must be in the specialty area applied for
- Documentation from employers required

Application Process
- Document Experience: 2,000 or 4,000 hours verified
- Complete Application: Submit to Division of Fire Safety
- Pass Examination: Specialty electrician exam
- Master Electrician Sponsor: Must have supervising Master
Important Considerations
- Cannot work independently - Master Electrician supervision required
- License limited to specialty area approved
- Must maintain relationship with supervising Master
