Experienced Fire Alarm & Low Voltage Technician

OpSec Consulting is hiring an experienced **Fire Alarm and Low Voltage Technician** to join our growing low-voltage division.

The primary focus of this position is commercial fire alarm installation, service, inspection support, and troubleshooting. We are looking for someone who understands fire alarm systems beyond simply pulling wire and mounting devices.

The right candidate should be comfortable diagnosing ground faults, open circuits, device issues, notification appliance circuit problems, communication failures, and other system troubles. Experience with additional low-voltage systems is also important because our technicians work across a variety of commercial and life-safety systems.

Our customers include healthcare facilities, schools, religious organizations, offices, and other commercial properties.

## Primary Responsibilities

* Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair commercial fire alarm systems
* Diagnose panel troubles, ground faults, open circuits, shorts, and device communication issues
* Install and replace initiating devices, notification appliances, modules, power supplies, and related equipment
* Perform testing and assist with inspections and system documentation
* Read plans, riser diagrams, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer documentation
* Complete system upgrades, additions, and device replacements
* Identify problems accurately and recommend appropriate repairs
* Maintain clear job notes and communicate findings to customers and project managers
* Perform clean, organized, and code-compliant work
* Assist with other low-voltage installations and service calls as needed

## Additional Systems We Work On

Experience in these areas is strongly preferred:

* Access control
* Video surveillance and camera systems
* Nurse call systems
* Wander-management and delayed-egress systems
* Panic and lockdown systems
* Structured cabling
* Intercom and paging systems
* Network and low-voltage infrastructure

You do not need to be an expert in every system, but you should be technically capable, willing to learn, and comfortable working on more than one type of system.

## Qualifications

* Strong hands-on experience with commercial fire alarm systems
* Ability to independently troubleshoot fire alarm system problems
* Understanding of basic fire alarm circuits, devices, relays, modules, and power supplies
* Ability to use a meter and other troubleshooting tools properly
* Ability to read drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
* Experience working in occupied commercial facilities
* Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship
* Dependable, professional, and able to communicate clearly
* Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record
* Ability to lift equipment, use ladders, and perform typical fieldwork

## Preferred Qualifications

* NICET certification
* Manufacturer training or programming experience
* Experience with addressable fire alarm systems
* Experience with access control, cameras, nurse call, or structured cabling
* Experience in healthcare, school, or institutional environments
* Experience leading smaller projects or supervising helpers

## What We Are Looking For

We are not looking for someone whose experience is limited to pulling cable or installing devices under constant supervision.

We are looking for a technician who can walk into a facility, evaluate a problem, troubleshoot it logically, communicate what was found, and complete the repair correctly.

At the same time, we understand that no technician knows every manufacturer or system. We value strong fundamentals, good troubleshooting ability, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
